Position Role and Ideal Candidate:
The primary role of a Equipment Technician is to safely and efficiently perform a full range of mainetenance, repair, and service activities on various pieces of heavy equipment (i.e. bulldozers, excavators, etc.) including but not limited to hydraulic/friction cranes, small tools, trailers, lite-vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks, in a shop setting & in mobile field locations.
The ideal candidate is experienced, competent, and proficient in heavy equipment mechanic work and possess' the following knowledge, skills, ability, and quaities:
- Knowledgeable in:
- gas and diesel engines
- standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in repairing equipment;
- safely using tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment;
- electrical, body and frame work.
- Skilled in the use of:
- a variety of hand tools;
- gas and electric welding equipment;
- mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists;
- a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
- Ability to:
- diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic malfunctions;
- read manuals and schematics;
- rebuild engines and major driveline components;
- communicate with others about repair work needed;
- enter repair information in fleet maintenance management software;
- maintain a clean and safe work environment;
- lift or move heavy objects
Responsibilities:
- Perform daily maintenance and repair activities on equipment/vehicles
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment/vehicles
- Examine parts for damage or excessive repair and replace those parts as needed
- Observe, operate and inspect heavy equipment and vehicles to diagnose damage or malfunctions, using testing devices
- Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes on vehicles
- Service and tune gas and diesel engines
- Overhaul, replace or rebuild engines and components as needed
- Repair and service tracks and track components
- Read and understand operating manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Prepares work orders and cost materials estimates
- Maintain service logs and records of maintenance using fleet maintenance and management software
- Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Report damage to equipment or vehicle immediately.
- Monitor operations to avoid potential hazards and obstructions
- Performs related work as assigned
Job requirements
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Pass Pre-employment Assessments (includes BGC, MVR, drug test, & physical)
- Punctual and reliable
- Must have the following:
- Mechanical tools
- valid class D chauffer driver’s license
- clean driving record
- TWIC card
- steel toe work boots
- reliable transportation
- the ability to work in all weather
- the physical ability to lift 50 pounds at a time
- the physical ability to complete strenuous tasks
- the physical ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, crouch, squat or crawl in awkward positions to perform repairs and inspections
- the physical ability to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
